CDL Truck Driver Shortage

A shortage of CDL Truck Drivers that is beginning this year and will continue into at least 2012 - this is due to the result of a slow growing economic climate and stricter Govt regulation of new and existing drivers. These facts, will create a significant shortage of CDL drivers in the coming days, weeks, months and years ahead.

Noel Perry who is the Director and a consultant at FTR Associates, predicted this dire situation at a recent freight outlook seminar.

He indicated that many truck driving companies have been reducing their overhead by taking trucks out of service and by laying off drivers - he then made the observation that even as the economy and market rebounds, the truck driving companies will be slow to respond and hire back workers - this will in turn cause a CDL driver shortage.

He went to say that the number or drivers that will be needed is close to 200,000 will probably double in 2012 to almost 400,000.
